Fail Forward: Re-Imagining Learning and Creativity in the Age of AI (working title for now) serves as the third in a series of books that addresses the confluence of edtech, accessibility, and the state of “where things are” in the educational space.
AI’s dual potential as both an empowering and disruptive force mirrors many of the technological developments of the last few decades, namely, the development of the PC, and later, the internet. Similar to when those technologies became popular, understanding the role of AI fits in the educational space is fluid, complex, and ambiguous, both from a macro-level of policy, and from a micro-level in the individual classroom. Thus, this book will:
- Reflect on the “big picture” while also offering practical strategies.
- Fit within frameworks and guidance that can vary and will shift.
- Carefully consider the impacts of AI on ethics, equity, and accessibility.
Fail Forward will argue two thesis: 1) that in order for educators to understand what to make of AI, we must first understand what makes us human. By re-examining how we design, create, and learn, especially through design thinking and the science of learning, educators can leverage these frameworks to adapt to the new possibilities that AI offers. 2) as a reflection of humanity, AI should be leveraged in a way that promotes equity, accessibility, and empowerment for both teachers, students, and families. Numerous foundational efforts as well as practical strategies will be explored in the book that will demonstrate how to accomplish this goal with AI.
I look forward to completing this book and sharing with everyone in the spring of 2025!
